What does anti-recoil actually do on a Cronus Zen?
Anti-recoil applies a downward nudge to your right stick while you are firing, timed to counteract the gun's upward climb. Some implementations add a sideways component for weapons whose pattern drifts left or right.
It runs on the Zen itself, sitting between your controller and your console or PC, which is why it works identically on PS5, Xbox, and PC. The two values you will actually touch are usually labeled vertical and horizontal.
- Vertical anti-recoil pulls the stick down to fight the climb. This is the value that does most of the work.
- Horizontal anti-recoil nudges left or right for guns that pull sideways. Most weapons need little or none.
Why one global value never works
Every gun in Fortnite has a different recoil pattern, magazine size, and fire rate. A value tuned to flatten an AR will massively overcorrect an SMG that barely climbs, and will undercorrect a heavier weapon.
So you end up with one gun that feels perfect and everything else feeling broken. Then people conclude the script is bad, when the real problem is that they tuned once and stopped.
How do you tune Fortnite anti-recoil step by step?
Do this in Creative with a wall at mid range. Close range hides everything, and long range introduces bullet drop that muddies what you are looking at.
- Start at zero. Not at the default, at zero. You want to see the raw pattern for the weapon you are tuning.
- Fire a full mag at the wall and look at the spread. Note whether it climbs straight up or drifts to one side.
- Raise vertical only. Leave horizontal alone entirely for now. Increase gradually, never more than a small step at a time.
- Stop when the spray is flat, not when it is inverted. If your shots start walking downward, you have gone too far. Back off.
- Add horizontal only if there is visible sideways drift. Most weapons do not need it, and adding it unnecessarily makes your aim feel like it is sliding.
- Retest in bursts. A value tuned only on full auto often feels wrong on the two and three shot taps you actually use in a fight.
The discipline that separates good tuning from endless fiddling is changing one thing at a time. If you move vertical and horizontal together, you will never know which one caused the change.
What should you tune first?
Tune the weapons you actually use, in the order you use them. Most players waste a session tuning six guns and then drop four of them for the rest of the season.

Why do your anti-recoil values stop working?
Three causes, in the order you should check them.
You changed your sensitivity. Anti-recoil values are not portable across sensitivities. The script applies a fixed stick movement, and how far that moves your aim depends entirely on your sensitivity and curve. Move your sensitivity meaningfully and every value you tuned is now wrong.

Does anti-recoil matter more in Zero Build?
Yes, noticeably. Build mode lets you break line of sight mid-fight, so sprays are shorter and interrupted. Zero Build fights run longer at mid range with no wall to hide behind, which means more of your damage comes from sustained fire.

How does this pair with aim assist tuning?
Tune anti-recoil first, then aim assist. Doing it the other way round means you are tuning your aim against a spray pattern you are about to change.

Why does my anti-recoil work in Creative but not in a real match?
Usually because Creative testing was done standing still at a wall. Real fights involve movement, ADS transitions, and range changes. Retest by tracking a moving target rather than a static wall, and expect to drop your value slightly from what felt perfect in Creative.
Does anti-recoil work the same on PS5, Xbox, and PC?
