Anti Recoil Not Working

BO7 Anti-Recoil Not Working on Cronus Zen? Fix Checklist

Sprays climbing again in Black Ops 7? Work this order: the weapon profile, stale values after a patch, attachments, sensitivity and deadzone, then the slot and firmware. Most fixes never touch a value.

The script is loaded, the Zen screen shows the right slot, and your FG42 is still walking off the target by round eight. You paid for recoil control and you are getting the same climb you had on a bare controller. Frustrating, and almost always fixable in a few minutes.

Work this order: confirm the profile matches the gun you are holding, check whether a patch moved the values, check your attachments, then your in-game sensitivity and deadzone, then the slot and firmware. Anti-recoil failing outright is rare. What usually happens is the counter-input is correct for a gun, a build or a sensitivity that is not the one in your hands.

Laser Elite is our BO7 and Warzone build with per-weapon values that get retuned after patches. $49.99 USD at time of writing, down from $58.99. 4.9/5 across 625 reviews. See what is included →

Is it the wrong profile, not a broken one?

Start here, because it resolves most cases. Anti-recoil is a per-weapon value. If the script is applying the AR profile to an SMG, the shots go into the floor, and if it is applying the SMG profile to a Mammoth, they climb. Neither is the script failing. It is the script doing the right thing for the wrong gun.

How the profile gets picked depends on your controller. On a PS5 pad, on PS5 or PC, Laser Elite detects the weapon and loads the profile the moment you fire. On an Xbox pad detection is not automatic: you set Primary and Secondary in the manual gun picker, and if you swapped loadouts without updating the picker, you are running last match's values.

  • Xbox: open the picker and confirm both slots match the class you are holding
  • PS5 and PC: fire once and watch the profile load, then check the gun is one the current build maps
  • Ground loot in Warzone: a weapon added mid-season can sit outside the mapped list until the next reissue

The full detection checklist, including new-gun timing, is in weapon detection not working in BO7.

Did a patch move the values?

This is the second most common cause and the one people never connect. A counter-input is measured against a specific recoil curve. When Treyarch or Raven moves that curve, your saved number is stale, not wrong, and it fails quietly.

The recent history is dense. Season 5 Reloaded on August 20 raised FG42 recoil and moved its ADS time from 290 to 300 milliseconds, increased first-shot recoil on the Swordfish A1's Penta Burst mod, and adjusted the Mammoth. Raven's August 28 Warzone pass cut AN-94 vertical recoil by 10 percent and raised it by 10 percent on the MXR-17 and EGRT-17. Season 6 on September 17 adds the VMP, TR51 Para and Roc 20mm, and the Dravec 45 Aftermath magazine is documented as hurting recoil control on a gun you may already have tuned.

If your problem started the day of an update, the fix is the reissued build rather than an hour of value edits. Laser Elite retunes ship to the copy you own, so load the current version before you touch a number. The per-patch detail is in the Season 5 Reloaded fix, the Warzone recoil changes and the Season 6 guide.

Did your attachments change the pattern?

Detection can be working perfectly while the shots still climb. Barrels, stocks, muzzles and magazines alter vertical and horizontal kick, so a profile tuned on a stock build will overcompensate or undercompensate on a heavily modified one. Two Season 6 attachments go further and convert fire modes: the TR51 Para's Prestige barrel makes it full auto and the Roc 20mm's autoloader does the same, and a converted gun is a different gun as far as anti-recoil is concerned.

Test the exact build you run, not the base weapon, and treat a fire-mode conversion as a separate profile.

Did your sensitivity or deadzone change?

Anti-recoil values are calibrated against an in-game sensitivity. Change the sensitivity and every profile is proportionally wrong at once, which is the classic symptom of a setup that felt perfect last week and feels off on every gun today.

Symptom Likely cause
Every gun climbs a little Sensitivity went up, or a stale build after a patch
Every gun dips into the floor Sensitivity went down, or values copied from a different build
One gun wrong, the rest fine Wrong profile, new attachment, or that gun was patched
First two rounds low, then settles Compensation starting before ADS completes, usually after an ADS-time change
Fine in multiplayer, wrong in Warzone A multiplayer profile in longer holds, see why MP profiles fail

Deadzone is the quieter version of the same problem. A high stick deadzone, the minimum input setting, throws away the small counter-input before the game ever sees it, so the script is working and the game is discarding its work. Set the deadzone as low as your controller allows without drifting, and leave the ADS sensitivity multiplier alone once you have tuned.

Is the right slot actually running?

The Zen holds eight scripts across separate memory slots and it boots to whichever was last selected. A Fortnite or Rust script will happily run in Black Ops 7 and produce compensation that has nothing to do with the gun in your hands. Cycle to the correct slot and confirm the name on the screen before you troubleshoot anything else.

While you are there, confirm firmware is current and the device is not in Tournament Mode. Stale firmware produces behavior that looks identical to a bad tune, and Tournament Mode disables scripts entirely while leaving the controller working, which reads as the script doing nothing rather than the script being off. The tells and the fix are in Cronus Zen Tournament Mode, and the firmware method is in the firmware update guide.

How do you retest properly?

In a private match, not a real lobby, where you will blame the script for something a jumping enemy caused.

  1. Turn every other mod off so you are isolating recoil
  2. Load the exact gun and attachments you run
  3. Stand about 30 meters from a wall and hold the trigger through a full magazine with the stick still
  4. Read the group: climbing means raise the vertical value, sinking means lower it, sideways drift is the only reason to touch horizontal
  5. Move a few points at a time, then retest at your real engagement range, because a value that holds at 30 meters can still be wrong at 60

Burst weapons are the exception. The Swordfish A1 is compensated by timing rather than by a constant counter-pull, so a change to its burst delay lands your correction in the wrong window. Test it separately from your full-auto guns.

What if none of that fixes it?

Then it is worth a second pair of eyes rather than more guessing. The 30,000-member ScarZens Discord has BO7 threads where players post their sensitivity, build and values after every patch, and the team troubleshoots setups directly.

If you do not own the script yet and landed here comparing options, Laser Elite carries per-weapon values across Black Ops 7 and Warzone, automatic detection on PS5 controllers with a gun picker on Xbox, and retunes that ship after every balance pass. At time of writing it is $49.99 USD, down from a $58.99 compare-at price, on PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox and PC. Our guide to the best COD Cronus Zen script covers how it works and what the seasons keep changing.

BO7 anti-recoil troubleshooting FAQ

Why do my shots land below where I aimed?

Vertical compensation is too high for the gun in your hands. The script is pushing the stick down harder than the weapon is kicking up. That happens after a recoil reduction, after a sensitivity change, or when an AR profile is applied to an SMG. Lower the value in small steps until the group centers.

Does anti-recoil stop working after a season update?

It stops being right, which looks the same. A balance pass moves the curves your values were measured against. Load the reissued build first, then retest only the guns the patch touched.

Why does it work in multiplayer but not Warzone?

Warzone holds are longer, ranges are further and plates extend the trigger pull, so you live in the part of the pattern a six-second multiplayer fight never reaches. Keep a separate Warzone profile in its own slot.

Does detection failing mean the script is broken?

Almost never. On Xbox it was never automatic, and on PS5 a gun added mid-season is not mapped until the next reissue. Set the picker or the closest class manually in the gap.

How do I know the right script is loaded?

Check the name on the Zen screen and confirm it is the COD script rather than another slot. A loaded script and the correct loaded script are different things, and this catches everyone who runs more than one game.

The short version

Check the profile first, then whether a patch moved the values, then attachments, then sensitivity and deadzone, then the slot and firmware. Most sprays that stop holding come back without editing a single number, because the number was never the problem.

The setup from scratch is in the BO7 Cronus Zen setup guide, the tuning method is in anti-recoil settings for BO7 and Warzone, and the Call of Duty hub is our guide to the best COD Cronus Zen script.
