Worth being precise here, because "input delay" gets used for two completely different problems.
Real input delay is measurable latency between pressing a button and the game responding. The Zen contributes almost none of it when your controller is wired into its Input port. Latency testing on wired passthrough puts the overhead under a millisecond, against roughly 15 to 20 milliseconds of natural variation in your own reaction time from one press to the next. You cannot perceive that.
The other problem is a script that feels heavy. Aggressive anti-recoil or an aim assist booster tuned too strong will fight your stick input, so the camera resists when you try to flick. Fix 1: Wire the controller into the Zen
This is the single biggest one, and most people skip it because Bluetooth is convenient.
A DualSense or Xbox controller paired over Bluetooth to the Zen adds real latency on top of everything else in the chain. Use a USB data cable from the controller into the Zen's Input port. Not a charge-only cable, which is the trap. If the cable came free with a phone, there's a decent chance it carries power and nothing else, and you'll get intermittent detection that looks like lag.
A few cable and port specifics that matter:
- Use the Zen's Output port to the console, Input port to the controller. Reversed is a surprisingly common cause of weird behavior.
- Plug the Output into a rear USB port on the console, not a front port or a hub. Front ports and unpowered hubs share bandwidth and drop packets.
- Keep cable runs under about six feet. Long or cheap extension runs cause voltage drop and dropouts.
If the Zen isn't seeing your controller at all rather than feeling slow, that's a different failure with a different fix, and swapping cables won't solve it.
Fix 2: Check your display before you blame the adapter
A TV that isn't in Game Mode can add 40 to 100 milliseconds on its own. That dwarfs anything the Zen does, and it's the reason "my Zen feels laggy on my living room TV but fine on my monitor" is such a common complaint.
Go into your TV picture settings and turn on Game Mode or ALLM. Then turn off motion smoothing, whatever your manufacturer calls it. Samsung labels it Auto Motion Plus, LG uses TruMotion, Sony uses Motionflow. Each one adds frames of processing lag.
Also confirm your console is actually outputting at the refresh rate you think it is. A PS5 stuck at 60Hz on a 120Hz panel doubles your frame time, and Fortnite's Performance Mode is worth enabling on console for exactly this reason.
Test it honestly: unplug the Zen entirely and play a few games on the same TV. If it still feels heavy, the Zen was never the issue.
Fix 3: Update firmware and Zen Studio together
Mismatched firmware and Zen Studio versions cause erratic timing. The script executes, but not consistently, and inconsistent response feels worse than uniformly slow response.
Connect the Zen to a PC or Mac, open Zen Studio, and let it update both the app and the device firmware. Reload your script afterward, because a firmware update can clear or corrupt what's in slot memory.
