Cronus Zen Mouse and Keyboard Not Working? Do This
Your keyboard and mouse are plugged into the Zen and nothing moves in game. Here is the three step fix, plus why emulation keeps your aim assist and native input strips it.
You plugged a keyboard and mouse into your Cronus Zen, loaded into a match, and nothing moves. Or the mouse moves fine but your aim feels dead, like every bit of stickiness you had on a controller just evaporated. Both of those have short, boring fixes.
Almost every mouse and keyboard failure on the Zen traces back to three things. A script or gamepack is still loaded in the active memory slot, the devices are in the wrong USB ports, or you are on PS5 without the ZenLink module attached. Work through them in that order and you are usually playing inside ten minutes.
The aim assist complaint is a separate issue entirely, and it comes down to whether your inputs are running native or through emulation. More on that below, because it is the part most people get wrong.

Why is my Cronus Zen mouse and keyboard not working?
Run this table top to bottom before you start swapping cables or reinstalling anything. The order matters, because a live script in the active slot will make a perfectly healthy setup look broken.
| What you are seeing | Usual cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Zero input in game | Gamepack or script still active | Cycle the slot until the device shows no active script |
| Keyboard works, mouse does not | Devices in the wrong ports | Controller A1, keyboard A2, mouse A3 |
| Nothing detected on PS5 | No ZenLink module | PS5 mouse and keyboard needs the ZenLink Wi-Fi expansion |
| Devices listed with a question mark | Missing icon artwork only | Ignore it, the device still works |
| Aim feels floaty and unassisted | Running native instead of emulation | Use emulation so the console reads a controller |
Clear the active slot before you plug anything in
Cronus documents this as the first step for a reason. If a gamepack or script is sitting in the active memory slot, it will fight your raw keyboard and mouse input and you will get inconsistent or absent movement.
Press the right blue memory slot button on the Zen and cycle through the slots. When the Collective Minds alien logo appears on the OLED screen, nothing is running. That is your clean baseline for testing.
Do this even if you are certain the slot is empty. It takes four seconds and it removes the single most common cause from the list.
Which USB ports do the mouse and keyboard go into?
The Zen's port layout is not interchangeable, and guessing here wastes more time than any other mistake. Cronus specifies a connection order, and the device expects that order.
- Controller into Zen USB port A1
- Keyboard into Zen USB port A2
- Mouse into Zen USB port A3
- PROG USB cable from the Zen to your PC
If you are fuzzy on which physical socket is which, we broke the whole layout down in Cronus Zen ports explained. Port confusion is the number one reason setups fail, and mouse and keyboard setups are no exception.
Does Zen Studio actually see your devices?
Open Zen Studio and click the Device tab. Under connected devices you should see your mouse and keyboard listed alongside the controller.
If one of them shows up with a question mark next to it, relax. That only means Zen Studio has no icon artwork for that specific model, and the device works normally.
If a device is genuinely absent from that list, the problem is upstream of your game. Reseat the cable, try the other port, and confirm the controller itself is being detected. Our controller detection fix guide covers the same class of problem and the steps carry across.
Prove the inputs are landing with Device Monitor
This is the step almost nobody does, and it turns guesswork into a yes or no answer. In Zen Studio, go to Tools and open Device Monitor.
Move your mouse. You should see the Rx and Ry values changing in real time, which confirms the Zen is reading mouse movement as right stick input.
Now press W, A, S and D. The Lx and Ly values should move, confirming your keys are mapping to left stick movement. Tap spacebar and other bound keys to check the rest of your mapping.
If Device Monitor shows movement but your game does not respond, the Zen is fine and the issue is on the console or title side. If Device Monitor shows nothing, go back to the slot and port steps.
Why did my PC mouse and keyboard stop working?
This catches people out constantly and it is not a fault. Once your main mouse and keyboard are connected to the Zen, they operate as a controller and no longer drive your PC.
You have two ways around it. Keep a spare cheap keyboard and mouse plugged into the PC, or use a USB powered MK switch to toggle both sets between the PC and the Zen. The switch is the cleaner option if you tune settings often.
PS5 is the exception you need to know about
Mouse and keyboard on the Zen is supported on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. PS5 is the one platform with an extra requirement.
Cronus lists PS5 mouse and keyboard as needing the Cronus ZenLink Wi-Fi expansion module. Without it, no amount of port shuffling will get your devices recognized on that console.
On peripherals themselves, there is an official supported list, but most standard USB mice and keyboards work even if yours is not named on it. Do not buy new hardware before you have tested what you already own. Full details live in the official Cronus mouse and keyboard guide.
Native vs emulation: why your aim assist disappeared
Here is the distinction that explains the "it works but it feels awful" complaint. Native mouse and keyboard means the game takes your input directly. Emulation means the Zen translates your mouse and keyboard into controller signals first.
With native input the game treats you as a PC player, so controller aim assist is gone. Native is also limited to the handful of titles that support it, and scripts and gamepacks do not run on top of it.
Emulation is the opposite trade. Your inputs go through the Zen and arrive as controller signals, so aim assist behaves normally, it works in titles with no native support at all, and scripts run fine. You also get sensitivity, smoothing and deadzone tuning that native input simply does not expose.
The cost is a short setup and a translation layer between your hand and the game. For anyone playing shooters on console, that trade is not close. We take the full comparison apart in Cronus Zen native vs emulation, including which platforms support each mode.

What to run once your setup is detected
A clean mouse and keyboard setup gets your inputs into the console. What you layer on top decides whether your aim and recoil control actually improve.
Laser Elite is our Call of Duty script, tuned for Black Ops 7 and Warzone and running on PS5, Xbox and PC. It carries aim assist boosting, per weapon anti-recoil with adjustable values, and full auto weapon detection that applies the right profile the moment you fire. It sits at $49.99 at time of writing, down from $58.99.
For Fortnite, Luna Elite covers Chapter 7 with aim features and macros built for the current aim system, also $49.99 at time of writing. If you are weighing which title to set up first, the rundown of which Cronus Zen script to run for your game is the fastest way to decide, and the full Zen scripts collection lists everything we build.
The honest objection is that a script cannot fix a setup problem, and that is true. Sort your ports and detection first, then add the script. Every ScarZens purchase includes lifetime updates and setup help, and if your devices still refuse to show up you can get your exact hardware combination looked at by players running the same gear in our 30,000 member Discord setup channels.
Across 4,000 plus customers the store averages 4.9 out of 5, with Laser Elite alone sitting on 625 ratings at the time of writing.
FAQ
Do I need Zen Studio open while I play with mouse and keyboard?
No. Zen Studio is for configuration, device detection and testing through Device Monitor. Once your profile is on the Zen and your inputs are confirmed, you can close it and play.
Can I use any mouse and keyboard with the Cronus Zen?
Cronus maintains an official supported devices list, but most standard USB mice and keyboards work even when they are not on it. Wired is the simpler path. Test what you own before you spend money on new peripherals.
Why does my mouse feel too fast or too slow through the Zen?
Emulation converts mouse movement into right stick travel, so raw DPI does not translate the way it does on PC. Adjust sensitivity, smoothing and deadzone in your Zen profile rather than in your mouse software. Change one value at a time and test in a live match.
Does mouse and keyboard work with ScarZens scripts?
Yes, as long as you are running emulation rather than native input. Under emulation your keyboard and mouse arrive as controller signals, which is exactly what the scripts are built around. Native input bypasses the Zen's processing entirely, so nothing layers on top.
Do I need the ZenLink module on Xbox too?
No. Cronus lists the ZenLink Wi-Fi expansion as the requirement for PlayStation 5. Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch do not call for it.
