Rust Console AK vs LR-300: Which Recoil Wins?
The LR-300 is easier to control and the AK hits harder. Here is how the two Rust Console rifles compare on damage, recoil and availability, and which one to actually carry.
You finally loot an AK, walk into a fight at the compound, and the first four rounds land before the spray wanders off someone's shoulder into the sky. Meanwhile the guy with the LR-300 is holding the trigger and hitting.
Short version: the LR-300 is the easier rifle to shoot on Rust Console, and the AK hits harder. The AK does about 50 damage a body shot against the LR's 40, but its spray adds unpredictable sideways kick after roughly the fifth round, while the LR pulls in a tighter, more vertical line. If your spray control is still a work in progress, carry the LR. If you can burst four to seven rounds cleanly, the AK kills in fewer bullets.

AK vs LR-300 on Rust Console: how they actually differ
Here is the comparison stripped down to what changes fights. Figures reflect Rust weapon data as of August 2026, and Console occasionally trails the PC build, so treat exact values as a guide rather than gospel.
| AK (Assault Rifle) | LR-300 | |
|---|---|---|
| Body damage per shot | ~50 | 40 |
| Headshot multiplier | ~2x | 2x |
| Magazine | 30 (5.56) | 30 (5.56) |
| Reload | ~3.4 sec | 4 sec |
| Recoil | Strong vertical, then lateral kick | Tighter, mostly vertical |
| How you get it | Craftable at Tier 3 | Loot and Bandit Camp only |
The damage line is the one people underrate. A naked player dies to two AK body shots but needs three from an LR. Armor pushes both numbers up, but that one extra bullet is often the difference between winning a peek and trading.
Why does the AK feel so much harder to control?
The AK sprays in two phases. Rounds one through four are mostly a straight vertical climb, which you counter by pulling down.
From round five onward it starts kicking sideways, and that lateral component is partially randomized. You cannot memorize an exact path, which is why experienced players burst four to seven rounds instead of holding the trigger through a full mag.
On a controller this is genuinely rough. You are correcting a climbing, drifting pattern with a stick that has a fraction of the precision a mouse gives you, which is why so many console fights end with the last ten rounds going over the target's head.
Is the LR-300 recoil really that much easier?
Yes, and it is not close. The LR's pattern is a tight zigzag with a steady upward pull rather than the AK's widening drift, which is why players call it a laser.
It fires at 500 RPM with the same 30-round magazine, so you are not sacrificing sustained output. You are trading 10 damage a bullet for a spray you can actually hold through at range.
That trade favors the LR at distance and favors the AK inside about 20 meters, where you are bursting anyway and the extra damage per shot closes fights faster.
Which one should you carry?
- Roaming solo or in a duo: LR-300. Fewer of your bullets miss, and you rarely get the clean burst window an AK rewards.
- Raid defense and close-quarters holds: AK. Short bursts, high damage, corners at five meters.
- Long-range trading across open ground: LR-300, ideally with a holo or 4x depending on the distance you actually fight at.
- You only own one and it is an AK: keep it. Learning to burst-fire an AK properly is worth more than swapping guns.
Sight choice changes this more than most players expect. We broke that down separately in Rust Console 4x vs Holo: which sight wins on the AK, and the short answer is that a lot of people are running the wrong glass for their engagement range.
Getting your hands on each rifle
The AK is craftable once you reach a Tier 3 workbench, and the blueprint is not known by default. You either research a looted one or unlock it through the tech tree.
The LR-300 cannot be crafted at all. You find it in crates, airdrops, heli and Bradley loot, or you buy it from Bandit Camp for scrap.
That changes the calculus on a fresh wipe. Early on, an LR is a lucky find. By mid wipe with a T3 bench running, the AK is the rifle you can actually replace every time you die, which is worth more than a marginally easier spray you only get to hold once.
Can you fix recoil on a controller?
Partly, and you should be clear-eyed about how. Practicing burst discipline and learning the first five rounds of each pattern will do more for your win rate than anything else.
Beyond that, a Cronus Zen sits between your controller and your console and applies compensation while you hold the trigger. Scar-Rust is our Rust Console script and it ships with pre-tuned anti-recoil profiles for supported Rust weapons, so you pick your gun from a weapon menu instead of hunting values on a test server. It runs on PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox, PC and Nintendo, and it is $49.99 at time of writing, down from $58.99. 4.9/5 from 1,200+ reviews and 4,000+ players.
The practical benefit for this specific comparison is that the AK's harder pattern stops being the reason you avoid the gun. You get to pick a rifle on damage and availability rather than on which spray you can survive.
Setup is the part people worry about, and it is a redeem code and a file load. If you get stuck on values or the weapon menu, there are written and video walkthroughs plus live help from the team in the ScarZens Discord, which is where every script gets delivered.
Is a script worth it if you already spray well?
If you can hold a full AK mag on target at 40 meters with a controller, honestly, less so. The gains are largest for players who lose fights specifically because rounds five through fifteen walk off target.
Where it still helps a strong player is consistency across weapons. Most people are good with one or two guns and mediocre with the rest, and per-weapon profiles flatten that out so an SKS or an MP5 fight does not feel like starting over.

FAQ
Is the LR-300 better than the AK in Rust Console?
It is easier to control, not strictly better. The AK's higher per-shot damage means fewer bullets to a kill, which matters most in close fights. Most players land more of their shots with the LR, so it wins on practical damage output at range.
How many shots does it take to kill with each?
Against an unarmored player, two AK body shots or three LR body shots. Both kill with a single headshot on a naked target. Armor raises those counts, and heavy plate can take five or more body shots from either rifle.
Can I craft an LR-300 on Rust Console?
No. The LR-300 has no crafting recipe. It comes from crates, airdrops, Bradley and heli loot, or the Bandit Camp vendor for scrap, which makes it a wipe-dependent find rather than something you can farm toward.
Does Scar-Rust cover both rifles?
Yes. It includes pre-tuned profiles for supported Rust weapons, including both assault rifles, selected from an in-script weapon menu. Updates are free after purchase, and the script gets retuned when Rust patches change weapon behavior.
Does it work for other games?
No, Scar-Rust is tuned for Rust specifically. If you also play Black Ops 7 or Warzone, Laser Elite is the separate COD script with its own per-weapon anti-recoil values. You can see everything in the full Cronus Zen script collection.
