Cronus Zen PS4 Setup: Ports, DS4 Pairing and Fixes
The Cronus Zen still works on PS4, PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro. Here is the port layout, the DualShock 4 revision that actually matters, and the fixes PS4 owners need most.
Your Cronus Zen arrived, your PS4 is sitting right there, and nothing on the OLED matches the tutorial you watched. Most guides online are written for the PS5, and the PS4 has its own port rules, its own controller quirks and its own power problem.
Short version: the Zen works on the original PS4, the PS4 Slim and the PS4 Pro. You program it from a computer over the PROG USB port, run it to the console on the CONSOLE/PC port, put a DualShock 4 in port A1, and set the emulator output in Zen Studio to PlayStation 4. PS4 Pro owners have one extra rule, and ignoring it is the most common reason a Pro setup looks completely dead.
Does the Cronus Zen still work on PS4?
Yes. Cronus still documents the PS4, the Slim and the Pro as supported consoles, with their own port layout and controller list. The games are the bigger question, and the PS4 is in better shape than most people assume.
Fortnite is still listed for PlayStation 4 on PlayStation's own store page. Black Ops 7 also shipped on last generation hardware, and Activision has said it is the final Call of Duty to do so. Modern Warfare 4 lands on 23 October 2026 for current generation consoles, PC and Switch 2 only, accurate as of 7 October 2026.
So if you game on a PS4, this is the stretch where it still pays to get your setup right rather than wait for a console upgrade.

Which Cronus Zen ports does a PS4 setup use?
The Zen has two USB ports on its edges and three lettered ports for input devices. Plugging the wrong cable into the wrong hole gives you a device that lights up and does absolutely nothing. We broke the whole layout down in our guide to which Cronus Zen USB port does what, but for the PS4 the assignments are narrow.
| Port | What goes there on PS4 |
|---|---|
| PROG USB | Your computer, for programming and firmware |
| CONSOLE/PC USB | The PS4 itself |
| A1 | DualShock 4, wired connection only |
| A2 | A second controller, mouse or keyboard |
| A3 | Mouse, keyboard, or a wireless adapter |
Two details catch people out here. The DualShock 4 in A1 talks over a cable, so even a wireless pad needs a USB lead running into that port. Wireless adapters go on A3, never A1.
Why does my PS4 Pro act like the Zen is not plugged in?
Because the cable is in the front. Cronus is blunt about this one: the front USB ports on a PS4 Pro do not push enough current to run a Zen, so the device has to sit on a rear port. Move the CONSOLE/PC cable around the back and a Pro that looked faulty almost always wakes straight up.
The same thinking applies on the programming side. An underpowered laptop port or a cheap unpowered hub can leave you with a USB device that Windows flatly refuses to recognize. Plug directly into the machine, or use a powered hub, before you decide the unit is broken.
DualShock 4 v1 vs v2: why your pad revision matters
This is the PS4 detail that video tutorials skip. There are two DualShock 4 revisions, and only one of them can act as the authentication controller a crossover setup needs. The v2 pad handles that job and the v1 cannot.
- DualShock 4 v2, model CUH-ZCT2X: wired or Bluetooth, carries controller audio, and can serve as the authentication pad
- DualShock 4 v1, model CUH-ZCT1X: wired or Bluetooth, no controller audio, and cannot serve as the authentication pad
You can tell them apart without hunting for the model number. The v2 has a thin light strip visible through the top of the touchpad, which the v1 does not have.
That matters the moment you want something other than a DualShock on your PS4. Running an Xbox pad or a licensed third party controller through the Zen means keeping a v2 plugged into A1 to cover authentication.
How do you pair a controller over Bluetooth on PS4?
Press the P2 button on the Zen to put it into pairing mode, then put the controller into its own pairing mode. The lights settle once the link holds, and both DualShock 4 revisions pair this way.
Two pads are exceptions. A DualSense has no native Bluetooth route in a PS4 Zen setup, and an Xbox controller needs a wireless adapter rather than a direct pairing. For those two, plan on a cable or an adapter from the start.
Rust Console players on PS4 run into the same hardware questions, and Scar-Rust is built for exactly that platform. Its product page lists PlayStation 4 and 5 and Xbox, ships pre-tuned anti-recoil profiles for the supported weapons, and adds a weapon menu so you are not typing values in by hand. It sits at $49.99 at time of writing against a $58.99 compare-at price, with free updates for the life of the purchase.

Which controllers will not work on PS4?
Cronus lists a short do-not-bother set for the PS4: the Thrustmaster eSwap Pro, unlicensed PS4 pads, flight sticks and full HOTAS rigs. Unlicensed pads are the usual trap, because a cheap controller that behaves perfectly plugged straight into the console can still fail through the Zen.
Licensed third party pads are a mixed bag. Many work over a USB cable, some need an adapter or Bluetooth, and a few only connect in PC mode, where they report themselves as an Xbox controller instead.
Why is my Zen throwing an E3 error on PS4?
An E3 code on the OLED means something in the chain is upsetting the device, and on a PS4 it is usually a controller or a cable. An unsupported pad will trigger one, and pulling the USB lead out and back in clears the state. Work the likely causes in order.
- Check both ends of every USB cable, including the one feeding the controller
- Confirm the DualShock 4 is in A1 and nothing else is sharing that port
- Remove any third party pad, mouse or keyboard you are not certain about
- Reconnect to a computer and reinstall current firmware if the code reads E3001
- Unplug every USB cable for at least ten seconds if the code reads E3002
If the code survives all that, a hard reset is the next move. We cover each code and its fix in our guide to Cronus Zen error codes, and the official port and controller reference sits on the Cronus PS4 setup page.
One firmware note worth knowing. Cronus moved firmware updates to a browser based tool, so a fair number of PS4 tutorials on YouTube now walk you through a flow that no longer exists.
Battery and headset quirks on PS4
Your controller may not charge while it is running through the Zen, so start a session with a full pad or fresh batteries. A controller dying mid match looks identical to a Zen dropout, and people chase the wrong fix for hours.
Headset audio through a wired connection is also not guaranteed across every controller combination. Third party pads are the least dependable there, and a DualShock 4 v1 carries no controller audio at all.
Is a PS4 script still worth buying?
The fair objection is that the PS4 is aging hardware and a script is a real spend. The honest check is what the live product pages claim, not what a forum post says.
Luna Elite lists PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox, PC and Nintendo Switch 1 as supported platforms. Scar-Rust lists PlayStation 4 and 5 and Xbox, and is for Rust Console rather than Rust on PC. Both sit at $49.99 at time of writing with a $58.99 compare-at price on the store.
Across the storefront the scripts show a 4.9 average from 2,100+ reviews, and ScarZens lists 4,000+ customers worldwide. If you would rather confirm your exact console and pad combination before paying for anything, the quickest route is to ask the ScarZens admin team in Discord, where setup questions get answered directly.

PS4 Cronus Zen questions people actually ask
Do I need a computer to set up a Cronus Zen on PS4?
Yes, at least once. Programming the device and keeping its firmware current happens over the PROG USB port from a computer. After that the Zen runs off the console on its own.
Which DualShock 4 should I use with a Cronus Zen?
Use a v2 pad, model CUH-ZCT2X, if you have the choice. It carries controller audio and it is the revision that can act as the authentication controller for crossover setups. A v1 still works fine as a plain controller.
Can I use an Xbox controller on my PS4 through the Zen?
Yes, with two conditions. The Xbox pad needs a wireless adapter rather than a direct Bluetooth pairing, and a DualShock 4 v2 has to stay in port A1 to cover authentication. Several licensed third party pads follow the same pattern.
Does the Zen use the same ports on PS4 as on PS5?
The PROG and CONSOLE/PC cables serve the same roles on both. The difference is what belongs in A1, since a PS4 setup wants a wired DualShock 4 there and the emulator output in Zen Studio has to be set to PlayStation 4.
Does a Fortnite script still work on PS4?
Fortnite is still listed for PlayStation 4 on PlayStation's own store page, and the Luna Elite product page names PlayStation 4 among its platforms. Check that product page before you buy, since platform support can shift when a game updates.
